How do we put an end to gang violence in America?

One idea I had was to decriminalize all drugs. Perhaps if they legalized, diluted, and taxed them all, then there would be far less drug-related crimes. How ironic that the crime rate went down after Prohibition was repealed! These gang members have no respect for anyone or anything. These people are animals. What's worse is all the innocent people in between being killed in gang warfare. That's one of the primary reasons I'm glad I don't live in Houston anymore. My hometown is overridden with gangs. I'm afraid I might have to wear a bulletproof vest if I were to visit my old neighborhood where I grew up. How do we make our streets safer in America again?
