Would a woman ever wear a man's-style hat in the 1950's?

Fedora's are in vogue for men and women nowadays. Would a woman of the '50's under any cirstances ever wear a man's-style hat, or would it be completely bizarre, like wearing trousers? What if she was a beatnik?
